I did too until I started (about 3 decades ago) cooking and pureeing my own pumpkin for pies.

My mother made pumpkin chiffon pies, which were enhanced with whipped cream and had a thin layer of whipped cream on top. They were the best pies in the world as far as I knew. I made them once. It took a couple of DAYS of work. If you're doing it for a crowd, it's worth it, but just for me too much work. But I still remember how they tasted and how much I loved it. I don't know anyone else who made pies like that for Thanksgiving.
