It's an Argyle pattern. You usually see it in socks but sometimes in pullover sweaters.

It is a knitted material and is used to make jumpers usually worn by men. Argyle is in Scotland and the Argyle clan will have a tartan of the same colours, the men of the clans wear the kilt either at special time or some will wear it all the time. The soldiers of the Argyle Brigade wear the kilt as part of dress uniform, the clans are proud of their tartan, people who do not belong to the clans should not be wearing the kilt, the women of the clan wear a sash across their shoulders. I think that enough of probably unwanted information.

Barbaranne thanks for the info on kilts, I think they are wonderful. I have noticed how proud the different klans are of their tartans. I love the information you post it is not unwanted. You know such interesting things, keep right on posting as I really enjoy them and I'm sure I'm not the only one. Be safe.

I also enjoy your informational posts, Barbaranne. And I have a fascination for all things Scottish. Thank you very much. It does not, however, change my distaste for the argyle pattern.

Barbaranne, not unwanted information at all, and for our North American friends jumpers in Australia and the UK are pullovers :) When I lived over there I had to learn a whole new language lol. I lived in the days of stockings and step ins and when I needed a new step in had to go through all sorts of body language to find out that in North America they were called corsets. Of course now I think very few people wear them but prefer to let it "all hang out" lol. Hugs Barbaranne.

Please keep posting information - I strongly believe that we should always be learning new information.
I think jumpers and pullovers are usually just called sweaters in the United States.

In the US a jumper is a sleevelss dress with large armholes and a low neckline. It's meant to be worn with a blouse underneath. Usually little kids wear them but I have 3 and wouldn't mind more.

I'm with you pixi. When I was in school I had a dark tan corduroy jumper; I wore a blouse with it that was a lighter tan color with fall leaves on it. Loved that outfit.

Yup. And the jumpers were so often corduroy--one of my favorite fabrics--especially old, soft corduroy.

Yep this cloth could be used for mens socks, a scarf or a sweater.
This one didn't take me quite as long as yesterday's, and was rather relaxing to do. I can't give enough praise to the people who run this website. You've got all the bases covered.
