I wish I could afford to go back there. The island that's created by the split in the Seine is the (I can't type the ^ mark over the I or the ' mark over the e in Cite) Ile-de-Cite, which is where the medieval city was founded. All road distances in France are measured from here.
You don't need a "mark" (accent circonflex) over a capital i..The mark over the e is an accent aigu. But I'm glad you knew you needed accents!

Thanks! I think the only way I've seen Ile-de-Cite spelled in French is with both accent marks. I studied a little bit of French before I went so I would at least knew how to ask if a person spoke English before assuming that they did, and how to say "please" and "thank you", which gave me enough French to eat, drink, ride the Metro, and the trains.

Hi Jamie. That was an interesting piece of info. I've never been to mainland Europe and with the current political unrest (terrorist attacks etc) and hating long plane flights plus a very hard to please digestion we just stick to US and Canada. I am sorry not to have been able to visit Europe. Although I'm an artist (if only self proclaimed) Paris was never top of my list. I want to see Barcelona (Gaudi), south Germany (the mad duke's castle) and Croatia (Plvitce {can't spell it} Falling Waters Park). This photo makes me feel free and happy, tho, and if that's Paris I'd want to see it also.
i live in the South butit is years and years since I was there
