These trees look very different from pictures of other baobabs I've seen. They are certainly a wonderful haven for birds and such.
They must be very old.
Wishing you all a long life.
"Rest is not idleness, and to lie sometimes on the grass under trees on a summer's day, listening to the murmur of the water, or watching the clouds float across the sky, is by no means a waste of time." John Lubbock
There is a place in Texas called Lubbock, I have been there :)
"Keep your face always toward the sunshine - and shadows will fall behind you." Walt Whitman
Aussie, when I was camp hosting on the Washington Peninsula, there was a (usually) private place I could go and sit on the cliff and gaze out at the ocean. That was my private cathedral and very spiritual for me. I wish that it wasn't so many states away from me know.

In our society now, rest is highly underrated. We're brainwashed to pack as much into our days as possible, when what we really need to do is stop and simply listen to the world around us. There is nothing more refreshing for the spirit.

I lived in Lubbock for a little while...My mother used to say, "Lubbock's a great place to live, but I wouldn't want to visit there! " It's so flat there that you could stand on your rooftop and look out over the town and all you would see is more rooftops. "I lift up my eyes unto the hills whence cometh peace." That's why I live in Colorado now. The mountains are my peaceful place...
When through the woods and forest glades I wander,
And hear the birds sing sweetly in the trees.
When I look down from lofty mountain grandeur,
And see the brook and feel the gentle breeze.
Then sings my soul, my Savior God, to thee
How great Thou art! How great Thou art!

I agree with both quotes and aknan! God bless you aussie. Sometimes I need a break from doing nothing. Some people would laugh at that or envy me but boredom is not a laughing matter.

Since I got old and can't do as much
i found out that some of the things I did when I was young was so unnecessary

I can relate, nlb! When you can't walk or sit up, there's not a whole lot to do...I fill my days with watching tv, reading, and playing on the computer (mostly jigsaw puzzles, thank you C4J! ), but there's not much else you can do lying in bed constantly. I think I would lose my mind if I didn't keep it occupied. My computer saves me from too much boredom...with it I can travel anywhere!

I didn't realize you were an invalid, Joyce. I am so sorry to hear that. It is wonderful you have found a way to still enjoy life. May you find more and may God bless you with a joyful heart. (I have found that only God can give that. You can't get it on your own.)

So right about boredom nlb. The two jobs I hated most were due to that. If you are a fan of Elementary you know that is what Holmes always says, too...boredom is what he most fears.

So true, dbnc. Not only unnecessary but worthless, too.

Thank you, pixi! I don't think of myself as an invalid...I can walk, but only about 10 yards at a time before I have to sit, and can can only sit in a very soft chair for around 1/2 hour before I lose all feeling ( but pain) in my legs. I'm only comfortable laying down. I have nerve damage due to having a bone spur that was sticking into my spinal cord. When the surgeon dug it out, all the spinal fluid leaked out, causing all kinds of problems. I now have Autonomic Neuropathy, and they're testing me for Muscular Dystrophy. But that's enough about my physical woes! God has blessed me in so many ways, I find it hard to complain (most days! ). I have a loving husband, two grown sons and their beautiful wives, four grandsons (three of them over 6' tall and extremely helpful, the other one an adorable 5 mo. old baby), and one wild 2 yr. old granddaughter who looks just like I did as a baby! They all live close by and come see me at least once a week, if possible.
Before I became disabled (2 1/2 yrs. ago) I was a church secretary and I have a Bachelors degree in Christian Leadership. I have a lot of compassion for those around me who are worse off than I am (physically, emotionally, or spiritually). I may not be physically able to help anyone, but I'm a great Prayer Warrior!
That's probably a lot more than you wanted to know about me, but I'm feeling chatty today! God Bless!

Joyce--I was so glad to hear about you. Believe it or not, although I am fine to sing to a crowd I am shy of becoming friends in person with people. I tend to attract folks that are overbearing and would rather be free of those tethers --but that leaves me pretty much on my own. This site has been such a blessing because of folks like you. Being a prayer warrior is an awesome thing to be.
I am so glad you have family close by to give you the love you deserve.
My brother-in -law's second wife is currently suffering as a result of having her spine fused. It seems to have caused her ligaments to contract giving her pain in her feet. She went to have a test to see if the foot pain came from her spinal area and the test gave her terrible sciatica. So far no word as to the cause of the foot p[ain which is still there, too. Our backs are so complex that it is a gamble having anything done to them. I will certainly pray you don't have md.
You can eat baobab fruit and seeds and the leaves are of medicinal value. The EU has just approved use of it's seeds ground into flour as an additive to cereals and smoothies.
The columnist says the fruit is like jackfruit which he says means it's like melon.
