Oh man....brings back good memories of my youth. Spent many, many hours on my Schwinn bike. I would ride now, but the streets where I live are way too steep to pedal uphill.

"Don't Let People Get You down
No matter where you go, there will always be two groups of people:

One who likes you and one who does not. Be encouraged by the ones who do and pray for the ones who don't." unknown

Good night and God bless. Hugs.

Morning Aussie, really liked the quote this morning.Used to love to ride bikes until one Christmas morning I was trying out my little brothers new 10 speed and fell off. I broke my right ankle in 3 different places, took months for it to heal. Rode a bike a few times since, just so I could prove to myself I could still ride. I am such a clutz lol! Be safe my friends and take care all.

Good quote, aussie, and Biblical too. "...and pray for them which despitefully use you..." Matthew 5:44

I gave up riding bikes in 2006, on Maui. Did the bike trip down Haleakala volcano. Ended up with a broken collarbone, twisted ankle, mild concussion and a fist-sized chunk of flesh missing from my right thigh. It was our 25th wedding anniversary and I spent the entire time in a wheelchair!

OOOOO! Do you have any lingering effects from it?

Yes, elijah. I have nerve damage in my right thigh that leaves it numb and/or with a burning sensation if I'm on my feet too long and my handwriting, which was never that great to begin with, has definitely deteriorated. I will never forget how many colors my entire body had as the bruises healed. Also, I hit the embankment hard enough to bruise my internal organs, including my liver.

Akan I've been up to Haleakala also, but in a car not brave enough to ride down, up not so much going up. That is one hell of a road with all the twists and turns, that's exactly why I wouldn't bike down. Sorry you wrecked, that must have been one heck of a fall. You could have been killed!! So have you been on a bike since? You be safe and take care.

Luckily, the steep cliff was on the left of the road and I went right, into the embankment, or I'd be dead! The only bike I've ridden since was a stationary one when I was doing PT this past summer - and I even had trepidations about that!

My ability to balance a bike and enjoy the ride has apparently disappeared. I found this out when my husband bought us each a bicycle so that we could use them for exercise. Both of us only rode the new bikes a couple times...

Well done 57 forever - love your name. I was 49 for about 11 years lol. And a 75 year old friend of mine still says she is 22 each birthday lol. All a bit of fun. Hugs.

I will share my bike story....I know, yay.....When I was 6 my parents got me a full size bike. Needless to say it was WAY too big for me, so it put in the garage until I was big enough to ride it. When my dad took it out and was teaching me how to ride it, the only words out of his mouth was, "How can you be so stupide as to not get this? " and other phrases to the same topic. I never learned to ride a bike. Each time he told me to get on the bike, I walked away. I can ride a bike now, but knee issues make it impossible to do. I am proud to say that when my girls were little and got bikes, I encouraged them the whole time and caught on to the skill really quickly. I know he was probably teaching me the only way he knew how, and I learned from it not to treat my girls in the same way, so it ended up being a win situation.

Sad story, but not uncommon parenting years ago. Maybe we are finally realizing that treating people as positively as realistically possible is a good practice. I always try to remember that our childhoods were directly affected by the childhoods of our parents. Sometimes negative behavior can go back several generations. But congratulations for breaking the cycle.

Thanks for those encouraging words, retirenow! I used to be angry about it, but he didn't know any better and I learned how to do it better because of him. Blessings!

My two wheeler was my favorite friend as a young girl. In my days a kid could be out from early daytime until dusk and parents didn't worry about them. Ahhh...the good old days.
