We used to get this type of candy at Christmas time when I was a little girl. They had little flower and bird pictures inside. While I thought they were pretty, I didn't like them much because they had kind of sharp edges and took a while to suck smooth.
Closely related to Brighton Rock, which we used to have as kids (long, long ago!!! ), form the seaside resort of Brighton in England. Peppermint-flavoured, like a long stick, pink on the outside, white insinde, with the name "Brighton" - or whichever seaside place it was - running right through it. It was part of the magic of a trip to the seaside :-)
