Did I ever tell you of my experience with an unknown vegetable at a very nice restaurant? I didn't choose the vegetable --- it came with the meal. It was purple. It had a nice taste and texture. But --- I didn't know what it was. I asked the waitress. She didn't know.
She went to the kitchen and asked. Purple carrots! They were delicious. I have seen them only once since. That was in a specialty grocery store. Try them --- you'll like them! If you can find them.
We have a great farmers market here in So. Oregon, plus every Saturday during spring and summer there is a Grower's market here in town where veggies and other goods are sold pretty reasonable and are really fresh off the farm!
Now that looks nice and healthy, Looks like they have come from our garden.Have a good weekend one and all.We have rain forecast for the weekend and it will be welcome as we have just planted our tomato plants.
I love carrots but have never seen so many colours - just orange ones here in England. I do remember hearing that they were not originally orange but are the result of "selective breeding". Probably people thought they look nicer but I think a plate of mixed colours would be very appealing. What do you think?
Just leave out the white ones. They'll remind me of turnips which I don't like. The colors remind me of Indian corn which is quite decorative. I wonder if the taste and vitamin content are indicated by color--ex the white may not have much carotene.

I've been told by a carrot farmer that the Dutch royal family, the House of Orange, bred carrots to achieve that orange color. Have no idea if that's true, but it sounds good! Up here in Alaska, we have all 4 varieties - orange, red, purple and white. Each has a slightly different flavor, but all are sweet. You just can't beat an Alaska carrot!
Are there any Chinese food lovers out there? Have you noticed in the last 5 years carrots are being used extensively. To me carrots are American/European so that surprised me.
Wishing you a bountiful harvest of whatever it is you hope to attain.
Hi Pix I absolutely adore Chinese food! Wishing you all good too!

Hello pixi yes I love Chinese. I get the beef with broccoli a lot. Join me, and the restaurant is less than 2 blocks away from where I live and that is very convenient.

I love Szechuan but can't eat it any more so I am back to the milder dishes. Pork Lo Mein, broccoli chicken and back to Won Ton soup. Used to love the hot and sour. I sure miss it!
