Don't want to get too close? They'd probably sniff you. I took riding in college and had to put on the reins and saddle before riding.

I've never been horse back riding but love petting them. One even laid her head across my chest and didn't want me to leave. Beautiful gentle animals.

Booked a few days at a ranch once so we got trail riding with the stay. The horses went realllly slloooow which is good because the trail had lots of rocks and my husband's horse which was walking in front of mine was a clutz and stumbles. Thankfully it didn't fall. My horse hated being behind her and kept trying to bite her rear. I spent most of the ride yanking the reins to stop him. He hated going so slow.

I have an aunt whose a retired horse show judge. One yr..she purchased a horse via credit card. That was back in the 70's. Then horse owners would contact her and ask her to come to their stables to evaluate their prize colt. She warned them that if she arrived at their stables that she's going to be quite honest with them. A couple owners she went to their stables and evaluated their horse and they weren't happy with her answer.
I always wondered why horses of this color were called 'chestnut' as chestnuts are dark brown. Then it finally occurred to me one day that they are the color of the chestnut WOOD. duh :)
