Just being nosy, which state are you from? Would guess Kansas or Iowa...

Yup, I'm from Oz (KS)!

That's my home state, raised & lived in central Ks. for 25 years or so. Still have a few family members there.

Oz & KS bring back a memory to share. After camping at Mesa Verde for a couple of days and then rafting in Durango, I headed "up the hill" to Wolf Pass. Exhausted, I camped somewhere E of the pass, and went to sleep early. Woke up later struggling to breathe. Called local sheriff who diagnosed my difficulty as a result of the thin air; I broke camp and headed E to get to a lower altitude. As I felt better, I continued to drive for several hours through the cool night air, windows open...until I suddenly came to a stop sign. Had no idea where I was but as lightning began to flash and storm moved in, decided to turn right toward lights indicating a town. Checked in at the first motel...with the nicest proprietor who told me I was in Liberal, KS (the official "Wizard of Oz" town) and that I could sleep in and check out late. About noon the next day he sent me off to a great pancake house for breakfast and then the Wizard of Oz museum. After a harrowing night, Liberal provided me with shelter, food, and a delightful experience! Years later, thinking of Liberal still make me smile. So thanks, CatLadyOKC and OzSomeOne, for bringing back that memory. : )

We live near there for a couple of years, it was fun we lived in a company housing area with about 50 houses. Our children were young then & they could run free and play with the other children. The lightening & storms were always spectacular with the wide open areas...could see for miles.

CatLady, "central" covers quite a bit of territory - maybe near McPherson or Salina? I'm on a farm near Newton.

Great Bend, went to college in Salina, also lived in Topeka (2 yrs), and Lyons (5 years), Ulyless 2 yrs.), have cousin in Abilene, brother & siter-in-law & mother-in-law in Wilson, step-son & family in Hutchinson, also son who is working in Overland Park for the last couple of years. Very familiar with that area. I think I got some of my material for my wedding vail (1st marriage) from a store in Newton, also mom had a friend (or relative) that lived in Newton that we visited often. Dad ran Walnut Creek Milling & Feed in GB until 1974.

Wow, I'm always amazed at what a small world it is, thanks to the internet! I have friends in Topeka & OP and of course many in Hutch & Newton. Have traveled several times to Abilene & Wilson, but am not that familiar with GB.

Yes it is a very small world, and have always feel Kanasan's were always very friendly, still have some friends in Larned, Buhler & Lyons. Lost one of my best one's last year to ALS, really miss her.

CatLady, you spent a good bit of time in my old stomping grounds! You mentioned several of the towns who were our rivals in high school sports. As a teenager, I lived in Hooker, OK (panhandle of OK) and Liberal was our nearest shopping town. It had a Penneys! And maurinef, I probably knew the manager of that motel. Glad you both have good memories of the area.

Do you remember the Sidcika (sp? ) Social Club just over the border, we stopped there several times for breakfast when we lived in out west on our way to OKC back in the early '80's...

I think that was a little farther east of our route to OKC. We went through Woodward and always stopped at a little cafe there. Good food!

Never had them and never saw them around my way I suppose that it is more an asiatic dish

They are fun to eat while watching tv, and so much better for you than many other snacks. And yes, the puzzle turned out harder than it seemed at first glance. But another good one!

Do they taste like peas??

Not like peas, exactly. But we think they taste good. And they are very good for you. If you don't care for them cooked, try finding some "soy bean nuts." They are toasted and make a nice snack.

I love soy bean nuts especially on a good lettuce salad. Those and some craisins along with the lettuce, celery, tomatoes and carrots. Sometime that is a meal in itself.

Kjd, my dad did something similar with pistachios. We hadn't seen them before moving to Arizona. Mom picked up a couple packages at a gas station on the way, gave one to him (we were moving with both cars) and when we stopped again, asked how he liked them. "Pretty woody. I wasn't impressed." "Charles, you don't eat the shells! "

I have tried them, but didn't really care for them. I enjoy food, but much more if someone else fixes it. I am really tired to cooking so around here it has gone to get it yourself! :)

Me too. I never liked cooking in the first place but once in a while I'd get inspired when it was a special occasion. Nowadays my stomach revolts at so many things eating has become a chore and I stick to the tried and true for the most part.

I so agree with both of you. I have cooked meals for my whole married life. Now I cook when and what I want, makes life so simple.

We used to listen to Schuller. He always had something encouraging to say.

My children and I loved to watch Mr. Bean. He hardly ever said anything, which was good since we laughed so hard we would not have heard him.

My son liked Mr. Bean too.

But they taste so good that way...
