I love reading the comments that others had made. Brought back memories of my Mom & her sisters. Wearing a "Babushka while cleaning. If it is the same thing that Jiggler was talking about. :O)
I think this is a bird wearing a Halloween costume. He is really an orange bird all over with just his head sticking out of costume feathers. He is going to a party where they are having a contest for best disguise. He should probably win the contest in my opinion. The prize is those candy apples that have been rolled in nuts.
Oh, yes - after all, even Queen Elizabeth wears one when she's out in the country!! And this little bird so looks like a plump, bustling housewife, don't you think? :-)) Oh, and I love the song "Babushka" too!

Funny cause my mom is polish and that is what she always called it. I wish she had taught us more polish but she did not because she thought it would interfere with our learning in school!

Oh Toadalove, isn't it sad how often that has happened throughout history. Killing a language is one of the quickest ways to delete a culture: here in New Zealand, Maori used to be punished for speaking their own language in school - and even at home because their parents thought it would help them in a Pakeha (white) world. Luckily, in latter years there has been a resurgence, and many official and private moves to preserve it. Same thing happened in Wales.

It really is sad but I guess we have all weathered it in some way or another!
