Thank you team for this fruity one, been yet again to skipton to buy more fruit, for cakes that I bake for friends and family, I think this will be my last trip out there for buying fruit for cakes. think I have bake enough cakes, but I must admit I like doing them. We had our lunch out and went to the pub at the far end of Skipton, enjoyed our lunch and to finish we had a piece coffee and date cake, must say I prefer a date and walnut cake, then one wonders why I am putting on weight.

That's what I've been wondering. Cardomom maybe? I don't think pepper as that would not go with the other flavors.

Actually, they look a bit blue for allspice, so maybe they are jumiper berries? An odd addition to the collection of flavours, I think....

I looked up images for cadamom and allspice on google. Calming got it right. It's allspice berries.
I always thought allspice was a mixture of cardamom, cloves and nutmeg and now I find out it is a whole separate spice.

The whole cloves are at the upper right. The "raisins or chopped dates" like like maybe a golden raisin to me. I've never seen allspice berries before either. I, too, thought allspice was a mixture of "all spices"?. Interesting what we learn each day.

Many years ago a friend told a story on one of his relatives; seems there was a family reunion, and this person brought a homemade cake, but was apologizing because it called for "Allspice". She said she didn't have very many spices, but that she had added everything she had! He never said if anyone was brave enough to actually try it. ;-)

Your mother was a wise woman kjd. Most of the wisdom in my family came from my dad. Mostly my mom would say "Don't do that you'll hurt yourself (or get sick or whatever) except if I came home crying because some kid on the block hit me or stole something. Then she'd say stop bothering her and go hit him back.
Lovely mixture of cinnamon stick, raisins, almonds, cloves( not flowered which gives a better flavour) and allspice. I enjoy them all esp. cinnamon.
