The only creative baking I ever did was making my son's birthday cake each year. That was hard enough!..Oh and I made our wedding cake. Here's a story...I was making the layers at my fiancees house and had put the layers together with icing between (don't evr do that) when his sister came in making a fuss because I had left some stuff in the living room and it was her turn to vacuum. So I left the cake and went into the living room to pick up the stuff making her mad and when I got back into the kitchen all but the bottom layer had slid off the cake and ended plop on the floor. I just sat there and laughed. There was only one layer touching the floor ao that went into the garbage and I salvaged the rest. The cake didn't look too great but it tasted good.

Great story! I also only "creative baked" for my kids' birthdays. The best one was when my daughter was 2, she was obsessed with trains. so I took an electric train set we had and took the tops of the boxcars off and made them out of cake instead. (The coal car had black rock candy on the top.) It was actually able to still move around the track even with the extra weight from the cake. That was the high point of my baking! I just use a mix for the actual cake, I only care about the decorating part : )

Pixi, That was brave of you to make a wedding cake. When I was first married I got an easy bread recipe for four loaves of bread at a time. I was making bread all the time because everyone wanted one. The other thing I made was pies. I was the designated pie maker for holidays. When I started having kids that slowed down. I haven't baked for years.

Bopitextreme, That sounds pretty neat how you made the cake.

In those days I had boundless enthisiasm and looking back I must have been an optimist. I don't bake now although I may give it a try this week. My husband didn't want sweets in the house because he had no self control. In order to avoid his getting fat I kept no goodies around that would tempt him. He still was over weight but not much...because he could even enjoy eating bread with nothing on it.
Cute Gingerbread house and all the trimming. A little on the hard side with all the dripping frosting and candies. But nice to work on drinking a cup of gingerbread coffee with sweet cream! Yum! Have a wonderful Blessed Christmas to all my puzzlers! Lots to do, I make Christmas breakfast for my family (about 22). I get up early and make homemade cinnamon rolls and Quiche *we eat at 9 am., then do Christmas dinner for about 13 this year then one day off and off to head south for the rest of winter! A lot of work but worth it!
God bless you all.
Hope you are filled with the holiday spirit and "laughing all the way."
May the miracle of Christmas fill your heart with joy.
my house is still a mess
soon be done with repairs
thank God for his blessings
