We took a raft ride down the Glen Canyon side of this. When we started out it was hot and sunny. We stopped about forty minutes along to beach and look at some petroglyphs and, if we wanted, take a dip. Suddenly a storm came up. We got in the raft and instead of turning around like the other rafts we saw heading back, our "captain" decided to continue. Then it turned cold and the rain came down so hard it drenched us all. The wind picked up and thunder and lightning were all around. One bolt looked like it hit the river. What a crash it made. Then the "captain" finally decided to head back. We never got as far as this horseshoe bend. He said he wanted us to see the waterfalls coming down the cliffs when it rained. We were all freezing when we reached the bus which thankfully had the heat on. This was in late July. Two days later I got sick with a fever. As a result we never got to the Canyon de Chelly. We tried to go there again this year and again were blocked...this time by the cancelling because of the virus.
We didn't drive down to the horseshoe from where we booked the raft ride in Page. We were too glad to get back to the motel room and dry off.
Hoping all your adventures end safely.
