We had a couple that had an RV along with about 9 others. Every summer they would all meet there. It was like seeing friends just once a year. We went one year with them. In the mornings a couple would make a huge breakfast for anyone that wanted to come. They could have had some others help them. I don't know. It was a lot of fun meeting new people. Sam and I just stayed one night. When the boys were in their teens we found a place on the east coast. There they gut used tents. Sam had a huge one. They had it divided up so everyone had there own grill and space We were never bothered. Mostly we would fish or swim. They would give us a trash bag and every morning come around and pick them up. There were bathrooms and showers. We usually got right close to the ocean. at the other end of the camping area was a game room and swimming pool for the kids. On the weekends they had entertainment there like singing groups. On Sunday they had a church service. We would put a heater in the tent for the boys and at that time we had a big van that we would sleep in. We did that several times but would only stay 2 or 3 days and move on down the coast to see places to visit like an aquarium or the big ship to go in an it was great. Can't think of the name of it. I think they just moved it somewhere else. All kinds of shops and the sea gulls would come and eat out of our hands from food we could buy for them. This was in North Carolina where we live inland about 100 miles. Great fun for a few years.
Didn't mean you all didn't or would enjoy traveling and staying out of the way places. After all the boys were gone we did some traveling mostly to family but we made a few stops like the Grand Canyon, etc. We enjoyed the time we had and I am sure you did too.
What a wonderful spot. I can never understand RV-ers that go to a campground--the same one every year--and are spitting distance from the next camper. To me if you have a camper it's to go to a spot like this, not hook up with a summer neighbor however nice they may be. I guess I'm not very social. I like nature and exploring new places. My husband is happier with as little change as possible but he has gotten to like the vacations I have mapped out.
Sometimes I get on a parkway and have the urge to just keep driving to nowhere in particular. Does anybody else have that feeling?
It was only 13 degrees outside today, and there's a biting wind. At least the sun is out for now.
Hope you all have a way to deal with the long wait for winter to end.
Pixi, I'm with you about camgrounds - crowded, noisy and not my cup of tea. Much prefer camping in the real outdoors! And yes, I often have an urge to just drive and see where I wind up. We used to call that "chousing" - just go! I learned to take snacks and drinks with us. Can't really do that up here - we only have 6 roads in the state. Two end at the ocean, 3 circle the center of the state and one goes into Canada. Oh, well - there are other benefits!

What state? Alaska? or Washington? You mean main routes, right? You probably have told us all multiple times where you live but I have forgotten.

I'm in Alaska and there's no reason you should have to remember that! I've camped all over Europe & the US and still prefer to find that great spot OUT OF organized campgrounds!

I wanted a window van to do that kind of exploring but it has always been beyond our price range and now I don't think they make them any more. It's all SUV's and RV's. Nothing between.

May every sunrise hold more promise, and every sunset hold more peace.
Hope your day is great!
