But then, I think a true collector of book of books had the information on the inside of the book. Folk in the past were forced to open the cover of the book at least!

I guess that these are all rebound books - the kind of books that would have the title, author, and Dewey Decimal System information handwritten in white ink and found in the deep recesses of a library.
