I get many animals in my yard...rabbits, deer, skunks, raccoons, chipmunks and squirrels and field mice by the score, lots of birds and every cat in the neighborhood. One (at least it smells like cat but sharper and stronger) marked territory last night and my walkway stank. About a week ago it was the skunk but that smell wasn't nearly as strong. I love checking the snow to see what has been around.

I have just about the same, except for the squirrels. The hawks manage to find those first, than go after the rabbits. That skunk odor is enough to gag you as you are just opening up your doors to let the dogs out. Got to love nature.

I also have a zoo around me as well. I can add about a dozen bird species as well. There was a huge possum in my back yard the other night. And squirrels everywhere.

Possums are around the area. In late spring I see them as road kill but I don't think they have ventured in the yard. We did have a marmot and I trapped him and took him far away. He was so violent I was afraid of him...and he had a terrible smell.
When we lived in the Catskills I hung suet on our porch for the birds and a possum who lost a back leg tried unsuccessfully to climb up and eat it. One night I heard knocking on our porch door. It was a really big raccoon who seemed quite miffed I was inside and he was not.

Not as bad as having a bear on my back deck. I have had squirrels, possums, and raccoons on my deck. I can't wait to start feeding my hummingbirds. I love the creations that God made for us to enjoy, except for the bugs and skunks.

I like skunks. They eat grubs.
Except for butterflies and dragonflies don't especially like bugs but without them the ecosystem would collapse so I guess we have to learn to live with them. Unfortunately they think I'm dinner...especially mosquitoes and spiders. Those sites that claim spiders don't bite are dead wrong.

I think you are confused, mamag...at least I couldn't find any base that mentions skunk unless the chemicals now being used in lieu of ambergris
(from whales)which is now illegal are just being listed without the source. It sounds like petrochemicals are largely the base now.

An acquaintance drove down to Florida today for an event. When he left Nebraska last night, it was -28. When he got here today it was 72. 100 degrees difference.
