Striking skyline but as a Londoner I do regret that some of our fine historic buildings (e.g. St Paul's) which previously formed the famous City of London skyline are now dwarfed by the desire to build the tallest & most gimmicky (sorry - original) & prize winning building.
I remember in the 1970s when we started getting shows from Thames Television in the US - they would start with a much different view of the London skyline. If it wasn't for the building that looks like an egg that some Japanese monster from the 1950s or 1960s would have laid, I wouldn't have known that this was a picture of London.

That "walkie-talkie" building looks absolutely ridiculous!

Not only ridiculous but dangerous. The curve of the building was focusing the sun on to near by cars & pedestrians - something the engineers & designers should have considered.

Los Angeles had that problem too with a modern building - the sun's reflection at certain times of the day went right into drivers' eyes. I think they finally ran something gritty across the surface to ruin the reflection. I wonder if computer modeling isn't up to real life standards.

To me architects are like scientists - they just seem to get in the way of life.
