Mallard ducks are VERY cute!!!! One time, on our local news, it showed a group of 16 baby ducks and their mother crossing the busy street of South Grand Blvd. here in Spokane, WA during the early morning rush hour. However, both lanes in both directions felt compassion for the creatures and gave them special time to cross to the opposite side of the street. God bless those compassionate people---few and far between!!!!!!!
It is amazing how often that stoppage happens for our feathered friends. I even saw a truck driver escorting a brood safely out of the busy intersection here in Anchorage.

I saw a news story just this morning about baby ducks stuck in a drain here in Denver. The mother duck was running around quacking like crazy. All the people who were passing by tried to get the ducklings out, but they couldn't. They ended up calling the fire department, and they came and removed a large drain so the babies could be saved. They released the mama and babies to a nearby lake. Mama looked so happy and grateful!

Stories like these reaffirm my faith in humanity. Perhaps there is a chance for us after all.

I've found that there are a great many kind and compassionate people in our world. They just make less noise than the whiners.
Thewre is a small river about 25 feet from my back door and ducks are constantly landing there..There are not too many right now as the melting moountain snow has the river up and running fast...A trade offd though. I do love the sound of the rushing water
Upstate NY is experiencing the birth of many Canadian Geese. When I walk our dog along the dyke that protects our neighborhood from the river, I see quite a few pairs and often mothers with their broods.
When do the male ducklings get the colors that mallards are known for? Too often, the female birds have fairly bland coloration, perhaps that makes them safer from predators.
God bless and be safe.
