The meerkat or suricate, Suricata suricatta, is a small mammal belonging to the mongoose family. Meerkats live in all parts of the Kalahari Desert in Botswana, in much of the Namib Desert in Namibia and southwestern Angola, and in South Africa. (Wikipedia) They live in groups as large as 40, and everyone in the mob participates in gathering food, keeping a look out for predators, and taking care of the babies. They burrows can be 16 feet (5 meters) long and contain multiple entrances, tunnels, and rooms. A group will use up to five separate burrows at a time. They only go out of their burrows during the day and use their keen sense of smell to locate their favorite foods, which include beetles, caterpillars, spiders, and scorpions. They'll also eat small reptiles, birds, eggs, fruit, and plants. (Nat'l Geographic) There's much more and quite interesting! Great you asked, or I wouldn't have looked it up!!! C'ya.

Thank you so much! Wow! We are such a great group of buddies here sharing and teaching with each other. Who would have thought that this is not just about the puzzles but about all the sharing we do.

We have more meerkat puzzles. Go all the way up to the search box above and type in meerkat. There is one picture that shows a big group as well as a couple of singles that I apparently never noticed before!
What a cute little guy. I don't think I've ever seen a picture of a single meerkat; they usually are shown in good sized groups. Family and friends? I dunno.
I love it when somebody gives us info we didn't know to go along with the puzzles, makes then even more interesting. Thank You for all your effort luvswesterns
