About 40 years ago I visited Neuschwanstein Castle. There is a mile long winding hill that leads up to the entrance of the castle. Believe it or not I walked all the way up that hill to get to the entrance. There is a carriage ride available, but I didn't know about it. If I had and the price was right, I probably would have taken it.
However I was very young and didn't think of the walk as a problem. The walk was worth the effort to see that beautiful place.
I know what yu mean, did the same thing myself and I worked with a lady in Shreveport, Louisiana who took the what she thought would be a romantic carriage ride up to the castle and as soon as the horse started to climb the hill it broke wind all the wayup and she and her husband were sitting right behind the horse. She said it destroyed all her illusions about a romantic ride hahahaha. Hugs.

Oh, that's hilarious aussie! What a great story! I had romantic illusions about the castle until I started reading about Ludwig and he was kind of a jerk. However the castle was awesome.
