No, arlenez - when the Dutch first settled there, they called their city New Amsterdam. It was later changed to New York, as the land grant was made to the Duke of York way back when.
I DID live there, and I can tell you for sure the air was never that clear in Manhattan! Whenever I blew my nose, it turned the handkerchief black.

My sister-in-law was living in the city then. I was unaware of anything going on. I live where I do now in upstate NY and didn't have the radio or TV on. I get this phone call from her telling me planes flew into the towers. My SiL was schizophrenic so I thought she was having a hallucination until I turned on the TV. I remember what an especially gorgeous morning it was in NY that day...truly special as if heaven had its doors open for all to see. And I think it did for all the folk who died that day.

Beautiful city. You don't know what you're missing.

Pixipixil, I like your thought about that day was an elevated one. Have you ever heard of the book "The Soul's Plan by Robert Swartz?
I did this one. I have been listening to a lot of the programs about 911. Was so depressing would have to change to a good movie and then went back to 911 programs.
Having a small celebration today for my 80th and the restaurant we are going to does not allow cakes because of the coronavirus!!. I have a friend who will also be 80 in a few days and will celebrate at her home, plus cakes!!! Hugs all around.
