This picture reminds me of a trip on a sailboat like that. It was when I was in Mariner girl scouts. We had to navigate our sailboat over to Cuttyhunk Island in Massachusetts. When we got to the island, guess who was there? It was Perry Como and his son. They were coming back from a fishing trip. I still have the pictures to prove it! However they are in black and white. His son was about our age. We were in high school then and he was very popular.
What an exciting time that must have been for you! You mentioned Mariner girl scouts. We're three generations of girl-scout-green blood here! lol I've never heard of Mariner gs tho. Was that for those of you who were near large bodies of water?

I named my canary "Perry" (Como.). He sings well, reminds me of enjoying Perry on the radio long ago.

Rahrah, they used to have a part of the girl scouts that was called Mariner. Before that I was in Senior Scouts. This was in the '50's. I really don't remember how many years they had it, but I really enjoyed it. We learned all about sailing, tying knots, etc. I also don't know what parts of the US had it. Might be interesting to find out. We were near water--had the troup in Fairhaven, MA.while I was in high school. I'm 81 now.

Loved that guy. Every once in a while I hear one of his songs which I can usually sing to!

I checked out the Mariners, what a lot of fun that must have been! The site also had pictures of the uniforms, pins, etc. If you want to check it out and play with your memories for a while, visit the site. I just googled mariner girl scouts, and wahlah! lol

Checked out the Mariners. It ended about 1960. I was in it 1951 to 1954 when I graduated from HS.

You're a piece of history! lol My mom was too, she was a Rosie the Riveter during the war.
Good morning all my fellow puzzlers. I love the beach, but I hate the ocean.Won't swim in it, when I was young a big wave knocked me over and dragged me out with it. I hate to think what would have happened if a friend of the family hadn't been there and saved me. Don't like to be on boats on the ocean either ( lakes and rivers are fine ). You all be safe out there and take care.
I never learned how to swim. I never got chance. I've had a few unpleasant encounters in the water too and I let it stop me along with not enough support.

KNadineM I know how to swim really well. My mother could not swim so she made sure all 6 of us could swim, just in case my dad wasn't around to save us. So we had swim lessons from beginner to advanced every summer.

I know how to swim quite well. In school at 15 I had to take life saving and then got the certificate. In High school we all learned CPR. Went to school and for 3 days they didn't have academic classes. We went to a church and learned these lessons.
"If you want others to be happy, practice compassion. If you want to be happy, practice compassion." —Dalai Lama
"All the world's a stage, and the men and women merely players. They have their exits and their entrances; and one man in his time plays many parts." —William Shakespeare
I don't either any more. I used to log in 10 straight sleep hours each night. Now I sleep in 2 hour dots and dashes most nights.
I got a phuemonia booster in my arm yesterday and I have never had such a painful reaction before. It feels like I ran the Boston marathon on that arm.
