Pretty orange flowers....Sorry the butterfly looks more like a big moth to me

The underside of its wings must be camouflage, for as I look at the upper edge of the wing there's a pretty orange color. However, when I looked online for photos of the Orange Tip Butterfly, I didn't see an underside of wings such as they have pictured. Mostly it was like small white flowers on a green background!

I also googled the orange tip butterfly and actually did find one that looked exactly like this one. Most of them did look like you described but I scrolled down farther and found this one.

I thought at first (in the thumbnail) it was a dead leaf butterfly but can see in the larger photo it isn't.
The outside coloring looks like one but the wing shape is wrong.

LuvsWesterns you are right that the photos of orange tips don't match but it may be the great orange tip from Africa which would make sense because it's on an ixora bloom.

If you go to wikipedia.org/wiki/anthocaris_cardamines and scroll through their images, you will find one just like this, on the same type of flower, just facing the other direction annd the wings are open a little wider so you can see more of the orange.

Hi nlb. I did go to wiki but the photos still didn't look like this one to me. On my screen the outside wings look like a mottled tan. What do they look like to you? On the inside I can see the white, orange and black. There is a whole phylum with that pattern.

My screen showed it looking like this except the darker spots were a little greener. Funny how the colors can look different on different computers, yes?

For sure. I have tried to increase the contrast on mine but haven't been able to.

It depends on the video card in the computer & the definition on your monitor. When my video card went out in my computer the only one I could get was almost 600 dollars, that was almost what I paid for the whole computer but son had on had that was all most as good. It is working great.

So far my only problem was the switch going. It went b4 the waranty expired.
The iMac lets you choose from various color systems but it is precalibrated for each so you can't fine tune them...but therre must be some other place to access it because I recall working onm the screen saver and being able to fine tune it.

Mine is a Dell, & I can fine tune it by just going to a Microsoft and make adjust to mine. & my monitor also has set on it that I can fine tune.

Beautiful flowers called what? No wonder the butterfly is attracted to them!

I had a big butterfly collection as a kid. I loved them and spent summers hunting them. Monarchs were the easiest to catch. (There were plenty of them in those days and they weren't endangered.) You waited for one to light on a branch; sneak around to the other sid ethen reach around the branh and gently pluck it off.
Once I had two of every kind of butterfly around me I started hunting dragonflies. There's a big green one that flies so fast it's like chasing a fighter jet. They come in the most gorgeous colors.
Moths were too scary with their fat, hairy bodies and ferny antennae.

I raised both butterflies and moths when I was a teenager. A moth hatches with its wings all folded up and damp. It takes a couple of hours for them to stretch and dry. I used to let them sit on my finger while they dried. Butterflies, too, but they don't need that much time to dry.

It's scary how both honey bees and monarch butterflies are so endangered. I still remember when my husband and I went to the Carolinas. We went to a butterfly haven. I was wearing a bright tshirt that day and had a couple land on me. It was fascinating to see them all, flying around.

What a lovely contrast - bright orange flowers and a rather ordinary butterfly. Probably wouldn't be so noticeable on a pale coloured flower.

"Every positive change - every jump to a higher level of energy and awareness - involves a rite of passage. Each time to ascend to a higher rung on the ladder of personal evolution, we must go through a period of discomfort, of initiation. I have never found an exception." —Dan Millman
"There is a vitality, a life force, an energy that is translated through you; and because there is only one of you in all of time, this expression is unique." —Martha Graham
