Hopefully, this site and other ancient sites in Syria will still be around after their multi-sided Civil War. Looking at Wikipedia, I think this is the Temple of Bel from the 1st Century AD (or CE for Common Era). Apparently tanks have been in this area plus other damages done. This is a World Heritage site, but, that seems of little concern to those fighting. Just as Napoleon's army shot at the face of the Sphinx in Egypt, this site has also probably been used for weapons practice.
Sad, very sad.
