Have some spare time so just wanted to se how you were.all doing. I am trying to keep up with ya'll but findin it hard sometimes.
Really feelin corny today. Tomorrow is my son's Jake's fifth anniversary since he passed away and I need to do something to keep from breaking down. Tonight is going to be hard as I reflect what happened that fateful night. If I only had one more minute with him, I would kick his butt and then give him all kinds of hugs,
have a blessed day and you are all always in my thoughts and prayers.
Prayers for you to know he is still there caring about you and he's okay.
God bless you. mamag.

So sorry to hear, mamag15. Those anniversaries are so hard to live through. People are always telling you that it gets easier through the years, but it really doesn't. It just gets easier to keep it inside without eating you alive. Other people forget the date, but you don't. I like to think that the older I get, the sooner I will get to see those that I love who went before me. Maybe they are planning a big home-coming party for me!
About 5 years after my mother died, a counselor told me that it was okay to be mad at her for dying so young. I finally released all the pent-up emotions and yelled at Mom (I was alone in the woods! ) for leaving me before she taught me everything I needed to know from her. I have felt those anniversaries a lot easier to deal with since then. So go ahead and kick his butt! You'll feel a lot better! And we can get all those wonderful hugs once we get to heaven! (My Mom was the best hugger there ever was! )
You'll be in my prayers tomorrow...

So sorry for your loss, too, Joyce. When I hear these sad stories it prompts me to repeat athe story of a parishioner whose husband went crazy and burned down their house. She and her baby son escaped but her daughter died in the fire. She was emotionally destroyed for a long time then one day when she went to put flowers on her daughter's grave she "saw" her daughter sitting there and the daughter said "Don't worry, Mom. I'm fine." After that she was healed. I pray God will allow a similar event to heal both of you.

Thank you for words of comfort. I am sorry about your mom Joyce. I know when I lost my I was over 500 miles away I had to travel from Pennsylvania to Virginia after having a tooth infection and my knee swollen from knee replacement surgery. I looked like a squirrel with his mouth full of nuts and limped liked like a wet noodle at my mom's funeral. I will heal from my mom but I do not think I will ever get my son. I know they say time heals all wounds, but in some cases I have to disagree. I find it easier to talk about it, but the pain is just as fresh as if it just happened. Love you all and may God bless you today, tomorrow, and always.

It does not matter how long ago you lost someone. Grief sits there with its talons outstretched, waiting for a moment of weakness so it can come claw at your heart. It can become easier to bear, but I don't think it ever completely goes away. When it comes, let it wash through you, because the aftermath is peace. My prayers for you.

Dear mamag and Aknan:
When I wrot my reply in September, little did I know that in a month my own son would be dead. I find myself having good days and bad days alternately. Even on a good day anything can suddenly trigger tears. For myself, I need to try not to think about it. Unfortunately my husband's way of coping is constanttly talking about him.
As with you, mamg, my sorrow over my parent death does not equate with my feelings about my son's.

A parent should never have to bury a child unless the death is due to war. I can't think of a sadder duty. Pixi, you've gotten much better in these last couple of months. All the prayers we send for you must be working!

Prayer is powerful, Aknan. I thank you for every single one. I find the loss of a child completely shifts one's reality. It puts those of us who have experienced it into a whole separate "tribe." I will be praying for you and mamag. We are a family now.
Me neither - but love the tastes! Maybe we should ask for a good recipe? :)

Hi kjd--Scratch sauce isn't hard and only takes about 40 minutes. If you are interested I'll tell you my 'recipe.'

I can make spaghetti sauce from scratch but not the noodles. I haven't made it with fresh herbs yet though. I would have to be making pasta right away and for a lot of people because everything fresh goes bad quickly and I know I wouldn't be using the herbs for anything else before it would go bad.

I have basil growing in a tub outside and oregano in the yard. That grows easily. I have to pick tha basil today, wash and string it up as we'll soon have frost.
I should also do that with some of the oregano.
I can't grow rosemary or thyme. And I don't use garlic in my sauce.

My sister makes the best spaghetti sauce from fresh tomatoes right from her garden. She does all her own canning. Her chili is also the best I have ever had. Good ole southern cookin' Nuttin likes it!!

OK.
Saute about a pound of beef. Drain fat off and set aside. Wipe away the grease and add a bit of veg oil. Cut a medium onion in half and dice. Saute until transparent but not brown. Add a half can of diced tomatoes with chilis and a full can of puree--any brand. Return the sauteed beef--should be in crumbly little clumps, to sauce and season sauce with:
1 1/2 - 2 T worcestershire
T balsamic vinegar.
handful of salt (1 1/2 t)
handful of sugar
2 t oregano
1/2 t celery salt
3 large basil leaves crumbled
Cook about 15-20 minutes at about medium --
if you have a cool stove a bit higher or a hot one a bit lower.

Thank you for sharing that recipe, pixipixil! Much appreciated - I must have a go at growing the herbs, too as I can grow heaps of tomatoes....shame you are not close by! Bless you and have a neat day. Sue :)

I saw pixipixil's recipe, but I'm vegan, so I'd want to do a marinara sauce. They say the secret is vine ripened tomatoes, fresh herbs, and slow cooking.

Just leave out the meat, vmarie. It tastes good without it. Sometimes I make vegeghetti. For that one I use orange or red peppers (sweet kind) in slices and onions sliced and sauteed in veg oil.
I add crushed tomatoes, green and black olives and all the same spices as the other recipe. On the side I boil a head of broccoli and add the florettes to each dish as people want. It's delicious with Italian bread.

Or you can fix "Florida Spaghetti." About 10 minutes before your sauce is ready, add peeled, uncooked shrimp to the sauce.
The amount of shrimp depends on how much sauce you make and how many shrimp you want in the sauce.

Sauce in jars and tins have too much sugar and salt both on strict rations in our house so make everything from scratch
