Actually, these are the fruits of the prickly pear cactus, elijah13. They're used for jellies, syrups and candy. Can be eaten raw if you very carefully remove the spines. They're sharp, tiny and tricky to get out of your skin.

They are very beautiful. Mine are in bloom now. Big yellow flowers that look somewhat like a rose.

So you would appreciate it when you finally got to the good part. look at crab legs how hard they are to eat with very little return, but I love them.

Hey has anyone ever had prickly pear jelly? Well I have and its pretty good/tasty. Are they considered a fruit? They are sweet when ripe.

I Googled this and yes indeed, it is edible. In fact, there are 3 parts of the plant that you can eat! But you have to wear gloves while preparing it!!!!
