Love these little guys! They are just the clowns of the sea. It takes a bit of room for them to become airborne and we've seen waves smack them down a couple of times before takeoff is achieved.

Watched a program that was showing them and how they take off. Since I have always lived in the mid-west had not heard of them, I see why they are clown of the sea.
