In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place, and in the sky,
The larks, still bravely singing, fly,
Scarce heard amid the guns below.
We are the dead; short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.
Take up our quarrel with the foe!
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high!
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.
I also like the song they played on "We Were Soldiers." That one and also the Ballad of the Green Beret. These songs tell stories of what our soldiers went through and tells the story of what war is like and how much it takes for our freedom. Pray for all the Veterans, families, our country, and government. We need to get God back in our nation.
One of our parish priests served as a military chaplain when he was first ordained. When he says Mass he never forgets to lead us in prayer for the military. It makes me happy to pray for them.

I remember learning that poem in elementary school - it's still such a moving poem.

I love to hear Taps as part of the ceremony to remember. That was part of my life as a Girl Guide in the UK. I kind of remember the words. Day is done, gone the sun, o'er the sea and sky.....

Every time I hear Taps, I start to cry. It is such a moving ballad.

Here you go, Taffi:
Words to Taps
Day is done, gone the sun,
From the hills, from the lake,
From the skies. All is well,
safely rest, God is nigh.
Go to sleep, peaceful sleep,
May the soldier or sailor,
God keep.
On the land or the deep,
Safe in sleep.
Love, good night, Must thou go,
When the day, And the night
Need thee so? All is well. Speedeth all
To their rest.
Fades the light; And afar
Goeth day, And the stars
Shineth bright, Fare thee well;
Day has gone, Night is on.
Thanks and praise, For our days,
'Neath the sun, Neath the stars,
'Neath the sky, As we go,
This we know, God is nigh.
Ah, my favorite flower is surrounded by my deceased mother's favorite flowers. I wonder if this means something? I used to stop and pick a bouquet of daisies for Ma in the late summer when they bloom along our country roads. That such a simple thing could light her up was rewarding.
Now Retire, it is your turn to walk down the Lane & pick the daises perhaps for yourself or a special friend or as a tribute to your mom. There are artisans that you can contact & they can place your lovely daises in a ring or bracelet from resins & then your Ma will always be w/YOU.
For whatever reason, I forgot to do this puzzle yesterday. Here in Kansas City, Missouri, we have the National World War I Museum. The Liberty Memorial was dedicated in the 1920's and, I think, was the only time when 5 military leaders of the United States, Great Britain, France, Belgium, and Italy came together after the War to dedicate the memorial.
Patriotism is supporting your country all the time, and your government when it deserves it. Mark Twain
Memorial Day isn't just about honoring veterans, its honoring those who lost their lives. Veterans had the fortune of coming home. For us, that's a reminder of when we come home we still have a responsibility to serve. It's a continuation of service that honors our country and those who fell defending it. Pete Hegseth
The American Legion sells red paper poppies to help the vets. My dad was a member and a veteran of ww2. I loved him and was so proud of him and all the other vets from all over the world. Thank you for your service. Everyone stay safe.

Actually, Veteran's Day celebrates all of the men and women who serve(d) in our military.
Memorial Day specifically celebrates those who died in the service of our country.
