We were in China a few years ago and spent a night in a village exactly like this, north of Guilin in the Longsheng district. The large wooden buildings, impressively built on steep hillsides, housed several families. Ate some of the rice (excellent! ), And also saw a dog being cooked with a blowtorch...Beautiful area!
