Route 66...that brings back memories of a family vacation to Arizona. Our car caught fire because of something rubbing in the back of the station wagon. A car came up beside us and got my dad's attention and screamed that smoke was coming out of the back of the car. My dad immediately pulled over and we piled out, all 5 kids, ran away from the car and then the right back tire blew up. Memorable vacation! We were only delayed one day so we were very very lucky. But, anyway, that is my memory of Route 66! Have a great day and blessings to all.
That's quite a memory. Glad all turned out fine for your family.

Nhoward. your story of a station wagon and 5 kids reminds me of my own story of a station wagon and 5 kids. We needed to go to Las Vegas from Northern Cali and dad knew our car would never make it that far. He arranged with a local car dealer to take a station wagon on a "test drive" to Las Vegas and back. The station wagon broke down on the way back! We had to wait 2 days for the car dealer to come and tow us home. 5 kids sleeping in the back and one of us wet the bed! 2 nights. What an adventure!

Nlbuchnan.....that is a memory that beats mine! Those long car drives on family vacations made a lot of memories for those who lived through them!!!

I had a 1958 Dodge--standard gear. A friend and myself went around the US for 6 weeks. Visited friends along the way, had clutch trouble, but survived the trip. I took $500 with me and she took $600. I came back home with just $20. I think I still have my "diary" about that trip!

Wow! What a wonderful memory, elijah13! I have always wished I had the courage to do that with a good friend. Good for you!
I remember driving on route 66 when it was a 2 lane road between St. Louis and Chicago for several years as a child when we went on vacation. We watched the road become a 4 lane highway over several years. Each year there would be a little more until it was built. It is now I 55 in Ilinois.
Oh, Route 66! Interesting road, whether was brand new or very old.
Brought communities together with beautiful scenery along the way. Thanks for sharing jigsaw puzzle.
There is always so much to look forward to. Did that in younger days on trips. Now content to stay very near to home.
