Very colorful fish and corals. Unfortunately, too many coral reefs are bleaching out because many of the corals have died. There are several reasons that have been proposed for this: the warming of the oceans, the acidity levels of the water, the desalination of the oceans from melting sea ice, and, in the case of the Great Barrier Reef off the east coast of Australia, fertilizer run off, largely from coastal golf courses.
Corals are miniscule animals that secrete calcium carbonate building up the reefs that are so important for many fishes as a source of food and protection from larger fish. One of the main predators of corals is the Crown of Thorns starfish that eat the coral. Apparently, there are attempts at building robots to inject these starfish with a kind of salt that will kill the starfish without damaging the other species.
Thank you for the lessons, JamieT! Very interesting

Hey Jamie,
It has also been documented that sunscreen runoff is killing the coral. There are a few types that are safe for both humans and corals. The big cruise ships with sunscreen laden passengers are a real threat.

Sunscreen is also responsible for tumorous growths on the sea turtles in Hawaii. And now, we learn that it gets in our bloodstreams within 24 hours of application! Guess I'll just have to wear long sleeves.
Down in the meadow in a little, bitty pool,
Lived three little fishies and the mommy fishie too,
Swim said the mommie fishy
Swim if you can
and they swam and they swam right over the damn.
Stop said the mommie fishy, you'll get lost.
but the three little fishes didn't want to be bossed so they swam and they swam right over the damn..
Boom Boom dittem dottum wantum choo, Boom boom dittum dotum wantum choo, boom boom dittum dotum wantum choo and they swam and they swam right over the damn.
Hi Jingles, what memories your little ditty brought back! My Mom used to sing that wee song when I was a child and I never could remember the words, but as soon as I began reading it, the tune just took over & I sang the rest of your words. I have to say I follow a lot of you on this puzzle site & truly enjoy the camaraderie & support shown each other. Thank you for the memories!

I listen to Old Time Radio programs at times. I know Phil Harris performed that song, but in a kind of baby talk, on Jack Benny's show in the 1930's. The actual title was The Jell-O Program. Once WWII started, because of sugar rationing, it became the Grape Nuts Flakes Program - both owned by General Foods.

Yeah very beautiful fish. We have many people down here from Ontario. They came down around Nov. - Jan. then return back around Easter. We call them Snow birds. I can understand how the travel north - the temp and humidity goes much hotter.

Sang that often as a child - I even have the sheet music for it, saved from when my mother took piano lessons back in the late 20s, early 30s.

Love it! Yesterday at a festival a puppeteer tried to get audience to sing "Found a Peanut". Only the adults knew that one, but we knew it well :)
