I had an 1000 piece puzzle of the "Starry Night" painting. I was working on it on my dining room table, on a tablecloth. It was so hard to do and I was about 2/3 of the way done, when my curious cat got on the table and in a hurry to get off, she knocked everything onto the floor. Pieces scattered everywhere! Needless to say, the puzzle got put back in the box and I gave it away.
If this isn't "Starry Night" by Van Gogh, I would be VERY surprised! I love Van Gogh and I have a copy of "Starry Night" in my bedroom. I was thrilled when I was in Italy when I found two shawls in two different street vendors One was Van Gogh's "Sunflowers" and another had "Irises". I couldn't believe that I found them and at such reasonable prices. May you all find something that you love and be able to get it and put it in your homes. Blessings are waiting for you to find them today so they can be part of your life!! God Bless!
We know Van Gogh was not a realist but I don't think he could have put this together from one viewing because a moon that bright would have obscured the stars round it. But I think of hotos taken in black sky areras of the ilky way and he certainly caught the sense of that. I don't know if the swirl are there because he was painting on a windy night and he wanted to convey the sense of the wind as well as what he saw or if the milky way and it's nebulas looked like that in his time with so few lights to destroy the nigth skyu.
You make some excellent points. I especially liked the one about the night sky being so much darker then, I wouldn't have thought of that but of course you're right. His paintings were so unusual, I love seeing how he thought of things. Beautiful.
Took me forever to finish this jigsaw puzzle.
Today, I will blame it on not enough sleep last night.
Hope to do better next time.
Even though did enjoy working the jigsaw puzzle.
