Nice roadway. BUT when I was in Germany in the early 60's There were trees growing along most all small bi-ways There were no shoulders as the trees grew right alomng side the roadway> There were quite a few accidents with the Cognac trees as the GI's came to call them
Driving in between the stone walls along the roads in the Lake District in England will take your breath away. Especially when a truck approaches from the other direction.

There's a movie from 1933 by Fritz Lang called, "The Testament of Dr. Mabuse, " where near the end of the movie is a car chase down a highway similar to what you describe, where trees are growing just by the side of the highway.
Great scenery! My only highway travel in Germany was from the old Munich airport, complete with WWII era bullet pockmarks to Innsbruck on a privately owned (tour company) bus.
God bless you all.
I was always taught to respect my elders and I've now reached the age when I don't have anybody to respect.
