I never really appreciated all the work my mother and aunt put into holiday meals when I was the recipient. It's been many years since we feasted like that. We used to have snack food, then soup then salad (sour cream & cucumber usually) then the main meal with dressing, potatoes and two kinds of veggies and then dessert.
We were never close enough for a big family gathering on the holidays so I never put together nything that fancy or complete.
