I love tomato soup with basil. I've never made it from scratch, and have no desire to try, but just a can of Campbell's or Progresso soup and, I tend to use an entire sleeve of saltine crackers so that my soup is incredibly filling and very, very thick.
I recently found a way to thicken packet soups which is quite effective and that is to use instant potato to the mix, just a tablespoon is enough and makes the soups, especially mushroom (my favourite) nice and thick and creamy. There is an old song that just came to mind aknan, I think Shirley Temple used to sing it, animal crackers in my soup. Hugs.

Yes, she did. I'd forgotten about thickening liquids with instant potatoes - thanks for reminding me. I remember it works well with gravies, too.

Basil is one of my favorite Italian herbs. I like to add to eggs as well! Tomato and basil is one of my favorite soups.
I am a lover of tomato soup, but do not like the extra herb added. Give me plain any time. I also love pumpkin and mushroom soup, very delicious.
Well folks, I won't be on this site for sometime due to moving by the Housing Government and have been allocated elsewhere. It has taken me so far 6 weeks packing and still loads to do. It is much harder doing it alone especially when I have been affected by a severe stroke weakening one side and walking with a limp more so having had a hip replacement done 18 months ago. I am nearly gone blind and I could not get any help due to school holidays. Tough work slavering without assistant. Take care everyone. South Australia is currently experiencing severe winter with wind storms, rain, hail and even snow is various parts. God bless you all. Tia xxx
Dear Corrina--my heart goes out to you. I will pray for your move and for God to send a helper for you.

Hi Corrina, so sorry t hear of your lack of help in moving. Recently my sister's church helped a lady to move, some of the men moved the furniture and the ladies got together to help her set up in her new unit by storing things in cupboards and setting up her bedroom, making the bed etc. They all had a lot of fun in the helping and she got settled much more quickly. There must be some sort of help you can get. Do you have a Neighbourhood Centre in your area as they would probably know where help is available or even Home Assist Secure, a government agency who help older Aussies with thing around the house. So sad with all your health problems you are having to deal with this alone. Many hugs for you, Tia.

Wish I were there to help you, Corrina. aussie's suggestions are very good.
If I were there, I'd have you drinking lots of organically grown, raw vegetable juices.
Follow through on church or social organization opportunities for help. Blessings!
