Well, this isn't the qwerty layout we are accustomed to, but it's close.
Looks like maybe qwertz. I wonder if the "y" and "z" are the only differences.
According to Wikipedia, the QWERTZ typewriter is used in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Hungary, Poland, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Bosnia, Croatia, Serbia, Slovenia, and Albania. It's largely because the letter "Y" is not commonly used in those languages, and, at least in German, "tz" is fairly common.
Ahh....wrestling with the ribbon....fingers smudged with red and black....loved the 'pingg' at the end of the line and slamming the carriage over to the left :-)
I didn't actually type on this kind of typewriter but I type on the ones that computer keyboards look the most like. I do remember the smudged red and black fingers and the pingg at the end of the line and slamming the carriage to the left.

I meant to say that I used to type. I run away from real typewriters now. I like being able to type and delete before the words are actually printed so I don't have to use whiteout.

I was hopeless too. I toook a year of typing HS but they were concentrated on making no errors I never could type beyond a snail's pace. If typing and piano are the same principle slow won't teach the fingers to remember the patterns.
I still have a royal just like this in basement. It was my aunt's.

My Dad had brought one of these type home when my brother was in grade school, he proceed to take it apart and change it so he could type sheets of music on it for his science project, Dad had a fit...I still have my small electric protable typewriter, but it doesn't spell any better than my computer...my fingers & mind are not alway in the same place...

Yes Pixi, I do remember the typewriter song and loved it. Always worked in typing/secretarial jobs and had a speed once of over 100 wpm. Not so fast now and I do like that it is so easy to fix errors. Oh and the joys of carbon copies, ewwwww. lol - hugs.

I was just thinking about "The Typewriter" - such a clever piece of music by Leroy Anderson. I once saw it performed by an orchestra: the soloist used an actual typewriter! It was great fun :-)
