No, definitely a hawk. Had a family of these in our neighborhood a few years ago - so fun to watch the chicks mature and fly. They came to trust us and would come bathe in water running from our sprinklers while we were outside.

Oh thanks Aknan, Your lucky to have hawks visiting your house. I started feeding Seagull's about 5 years ago and live across from the beach (North Shore, MA). I can wave my hands in the air and they come for feeding which is dry fish
flavored cat food, not white bread. I also mix in fresh protein when I have it. The females in my bird group go breeding in the summer and then we start meeting again when they come back. I think the males are still at the beach because the ones that I know come within a foot for feeding and the unfamiliar group stay about 2 feet or more away which distinguish then I know if I'm feeding my friendly group or not.
Calling for a mate or trying to appear bigger and fiercer to a foe? This is certainly an impressive looking falcon. Probably a female, as they make the best hunters. This according to the best female falconer in the world who learned from the Mongols of Tibet. A centuries old tradition I observed on 60 minutes. Awesome.but cold.
